Shortly after Steven immigrates to the United States from Nigeria, medical challenges hinder his ambition. Elijiah, grieving the loss of his son, witnesses Steven suffer a frightening cardiac episode in the park. After Elijiah invites Steven into his life and home, Steven’s heart condition worsens. Elijah, afraid of losing another son, offers to fund Steven’s surgery to get a new heart. Steven rejects the offer and instead signs a Do Not Resuscitate order. Elijah grieves again at the prospect of losing the young man that made him a father again.
